Experiencing the Monsoon
Everyone has experienced a good thunderstorm at some point in their lives, but not everyone has experienced a monsoon. They are a different breed of storm; unpredictable, extreme and short-lived. I purposely put myself in the path of monsoons in order to capture the storm itself and in particular the lightning. I want to attempt to share the adventure with those that can't travel here to experience it.
Before I start a little about me and why I chase down monsoons. I grew up loving summer thunderstorms on the East Coast, including electric storms. The feel of the thunder as it rumbled through your body and the each flash of brilliance unique in its structure and display. After bouncing around as an adult, 10 years ago I moved to Arizona and experienced my first monsoon season, it was breathtaking. So reminiscent of my childhood love and yet so much more powerful and impact on the environment. I didn't start trying to capture it on camera until about 4 years ago and have been addicted ever since. So much so that I've been known to plan vacations around chasing down storms including driving to KS and MO and all around the southwest. Now that I've bored you with the reason behind this post, let me "show" you the storm.
